DISPOSAL
No trash cans. No sinks. Here’s a safer way
to dispose of your unused or expired medications.
Did you know every 10 minutes a child is treated for medication poisoning in an emergency room? Or that 12.5 million people ages 12 and older have misused opioids in the past year? If that’s not reason enough to safely dispose of your medications, consider this: Three in five teens say prescription medication is easy to get from their home medicine cabinet.
That’s why Open Kansas sponsors and promotes a variety of Take Back events and locations. Local places where you safely drop off unused or expired meds and do your part in keeping Kansans safe. Check out the map below for Take Back locations and check the website for future Take Back events near you.
NALOXONE
Getting lifesaving Naloxone Rescue Kits into more Kansas communities.
Naloxone is a medicine that can quickly reverse an opioid overdose (including heroin, fentanyl, oxycodone (OxyContin®), hydrocodone (Vicodin®), codeine, and morphine). It attaches to opioid receptors, then reverses and blocks the effects of other opioids. Naloxone can quickly restore normal breathing if a person’s breathing has slowed or stopped because of an opioid overdose. Because of its lifesaving reversing effects, Open Kansas is working hard to make it available at more places in your community. The map below shows you medical resources that have Naloxone supplies in case of an opioid overdose.
